I found a solution and had posted on another thread... I found that the problem contact has "LINKED CONTACTS" at the bottom of the contact page. One of those linked contacts only had an email and no phone number. I added the missing phone number and the Siri texts started going to the desired recipient.

I recently had this problem when sending texts to my wife through my watch. I discovered that I had two contact cards for my wife, one with a phone number and one without due to my iCloud Contacts and my Google Contacts. To fix it, I simply copied my wife's phone number to the card that didn't have it and named the phone number the same as her "original" contact card.
This resolved my problem and hopefully it helps someone else too!
I'm pretty sure I had the same problem as you, and here's how I solved it:
Reset Siri

I hard rebooted my iPhone between turning Siri off and back on, although I'm not sure that was necessary. However, now Siri correctly finds the contact record and correct phone number to send messages to.
Hope that helps!
To help us help you, can you provide some more information? Does Siri just do this on her own randomly? Have you started Siri (in any way) when this happens? Are you dictating a text message when this happens? Do you have a "null" contact in your list of contacts? Anything else you can think of would help. Without any further information, the general solution to these kinds of problems is:
In that order.
Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup - Apple Support
SSiri frequently sends texts to a contact 'null'. So yes I have started Siri, holding the Home button and dictating.
NO such listing in contacts...I have no contact named 'null' and no contact I can see with an empty name
reboot did not fix it...I have already tried rebooting my phone
it iS intermittent and so far I cant reliably reproduce it. It happened about 40% of the time yesterday. Is fairly recent i.e. a week or two and SEEMS to have happened after my last ios update.
no I have not erased and restored yet. Wanted to avoid that. If you have no ideas then I guess I will.
Just did the 10.0.2 update and that didn't fix it (and a prior restart didn't either). Looking into KRSdesign's fix, I found a linked contact from a Google account that didn't have the number, so I added it to that linked contact and now texting to that person works as before. It's gonna be a real pain if I need to do that for all my contacts with linked contacts...
A similar thing is happening to me with multiple contacts, and just since the iOS 10 update. Rather than saying "Text so and so" and having Siri automatically text that person using the contact she's used to text them multiple times before, Siri now responds with something like "There are multiple contacts for so and so; which one would you like to use?" Choosing the one listed as "mobile" seems to work, but sends to "null" and the recipient never gets it. And a new "null" iMessage thread now shows these failed texts to multiple people.
As of now iOS is still in the beta, i'm sure if you email them or contact them they will get to the bottom of it and fix it by the official release on Tuesday the 13th this month.
This happens to me every time I want Siri to send a message to my wife.
the only way it actually works is if I tell Siri to send the message to my wife's specific phone number.
This only started happening recently.
Super annoying. I hope there's a fix soon.
Great! I have Facebook Messenger (I think) contacts added to for my wife and my daughter. I don't think I did that on purpose and while I can't seem to delete the Facebook contact (a new issue), adding their phone numbers to the Facebook contact seems to have worked with my Siri problem.
Thanks
Somehow this was marked 'solved'. My issue isn't. The suggestions about linked contacts with no number, and a problem with a Facebook contact with the same name i.e. my wife's, have been helpful in changing the symptoms. however, I get variations of the problem not a solution. At times Siri will suggest similar names when I say "text my wife", or it will offer up her email addresses and ask 'which one', or ask 'which wife?' I can send a text if I just give the phone number, and at times I can say 'wife' plus her name. But either alone does not consistently work. I always have to check to see if it really was sent or if it went to 'null'.
This is a recent (few weeks?) problem and suggests a software problem IMHO.
I'm having the same issue in iOS 10. Anyone found a fix?
Problem is I am running the GM of iOS 10. It's the same release that will be released to the public
Perhaps a issue that needs fixing by Apple themselves, or a issue that they've not found themselves? To me that sounds like a name error/contact name error or a bug somewhere regarding Siri.
I just saw this for the first time recently -- I'm not on iOS 10. Weird.
